25th October 2014
Winchester, Hampshire
Team members: Johno
There will be mud they said. And ice. And electricity.
Today the 2014 Aching Limbs tour arrived at it's ninth stop - the Tough Mudder London South. Self-styled as "the toughest event on the planet", your combatant was again Johno, fresh from a rather rowdy tequila-soaked friend's wedding on the prior Thursday.
After an energetic warm up led by a man with a hashtag on his t-shirt, Johno and his fellow "mudders" of the 10am wave were ushered through to the start line. Much chanting and grunting was done and then it was off onto the course.
What lay ahead was 12 miles of rough terrain, throughout which were dotted obstacles of various shapes and sizes, each with it's own special way of inflicting pain and an amusing name. Some personal highlights for your red face and t-shirt-clad participant were: Arctic Enema - an underwater dip in a shipping container filled with ice, Walk the Plank - a 12 foot jump into deep brown muddy water and Electric Eel - a crawl through ice and mud whilst live electrical cables dangle overhead.
In short, it was a lot of fun and there was only minor bloodshed.
To top it all off, there was a free pint at the end!
